Week 1

Being healthy includes eating a balanced diet, doing exercise and also getting enough sleep. This week, we are going focus on eating a balanced diet to help us get the vitamins and minerals we need to grow healthily. Choosing to eat junk food and sugary snacks is more tempting for some of us while we at home but we must remember to try and eat less of them and have more fruit and vegetables instead.

To help you with this and to remind yourself about what a balanced diet it, do the activity in the PowerPoint, then set yourself a target for eating more fruit and veg every day. For example, you might set a target for eating three portions of fruit and veg in the first week, and in the second week, you could have four portions, until you build up to eating five portions of fruit and veg a day.

Some ideas for eating more fruit and veg include, chopping bananas and strawberries into your cereal in the morning, eating a handful of grapes in between meal times, and swapping a fizzy drink for a fruit juice. Let us know how else you are eating fruit and veg throughout the day too. Remember dried fruit and nuts count too!
