You'll have received a list of spellings for this half term, in your children's packs. Spellings are often learned by rote - one method of doing this,  is 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check'.

This involves:

  • Reading the word by sight then saying it aloud.
  • Cover the word and then write it out at least three times.
  • Uncover the words and then check the spellings.

'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' tables can be drawn into the back of the workbook in your home learning pack.

HOWEVER - as English is so full of words that aren't always spelt phonically, it's very helpful to understand spelling rules.

Each week there's a new PowerPoint, to help explain the spelling rules for that week and children should be encouraged to practise the spellings of the week daily as well as recapping spellings from previous weeks.
