Science Summer 1

Topic: Sound

In this exciting ‘Sound’ unit we will learn about how vibrations cause sounds and how sounds travel, as well as how sounds can change pitch. Pupils will explore how sounds are made, carrying out demonstrations of vibrations, and completing a sound survey in your own homes. Children will have the opportunity to work scientifically to investigate the best material for soundproofing, in the context of making a music studio quieter and creating an education programme for how sounds are created. Finally, we will demonstrate our learning from the whole unit by designing and creating our own musical instrument that will play high, low, loud and quiet sounds.

Home Learning:

The Science project will be available to view in the Home Learning Packs. As well as the project, children will have the opportunity to work through other practical tasks related to the Sound topic which can be found in the weekly PowerPoints. Pupils can also to take part in STEM challenges which can be found in the Home Learning Packs . These science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) challenges are ideal to complete at home as they encourage hands-on experimentation.
