  • YR visit Hyrstlands Park

    Published 30/11/18

On Wednesday, 28th November, the Reception  children set off on an adventure to discover the signs of autumn.

This half term’s trip was to Hyrstlands Park, the children walked up to the park with one goal in mind: to find as many signs of autumn as they could.

The children had been learning about the current season throughout the half-term and were excited when they had the opportunity to investigate and discover the world around them. Though many of the children had been to this park before, it was as if they were seeing it through a new set of eyes. The children had a check list of things they could find and were very keen in using newly acquired language such as ‘bare’ to describe the trees. The children collected souvenirs to bring back to school such as conkers, which they used for counting and leaves to create autumn pictures.

In October 2018, children from Year 1 to Year 6 took part in the first whole-school write of the year. Each half-term, all children will come together to watch a clip from a video, and afterwards they will write their own paragraphs about what they have watched. The video for this year is called 'First Date'.

One sentence from each year group was selected, and they were amalgamated to create one paragraph. The children whose work was selected are:

Year 1 - Rumaysa Rumi Bulsari
    Year 2 - Romana Fatima
    Year 3 - Zainab Kazi
    Year 4 - Zuha Shaheer
    Year 5 - Muaaz Patel
    Year 6 - Arsalan Nawaz

Please have a look at the work produced, and check back next half-term for the second paragraph.

  • Y4 Dewsbury Minster Visit

    Published 05/11/18

On Monday 22nd October 2018, the year 4 children visited Dewsbury Minster.   All of the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the visit and would definitely recommend the church for a visit to other schools.  Below are some of the things our children said about the visit:

'Staff were kind, generous and friendly'
    'Tt was very interesting'
'The stained glass windows were magnificent'
    'The organ music was amazing'
'We learnt a lot of things about St Paulinus and about Christians'
'I liked sitting in the chapel because it was comfortable and quiet'
     'The big cross was beautiful'
'I now know that a baptism is when a baby is welcomed in to the Christian family'

After the visit, the children have a much better insight of a church as a place of worship for Christians and why it is important for them.
