Year 3 Angle Hunt

During Maths week children in Y3 investigated a range of Maths skills which they were able to utilise in the outside world. We started the morning off learning about different types of angles (right angle, acute, obtuse and reflex). Then we made right angle monsters which we used on our local walk, around Warwick Road, to find different types of angles. We found angles everywhere! Our monsters were very useful in helping us identify the type of angle.

The boys went for their walk in the morning. Mustafa noticed a right-angle very high up on a lamppost! We then made our way to Shell petrol station where we bought ingredients for cookies, we had a £10.00 budget so we ensure we estimated and adding the amounts mentally before we went to pay. Bilal estimated we would get 30p change and he was correct! The staff at shell were very friendly and gave each of us a chocolate bar! We returned to school and made a prompt start on our cookies, we weighed and measured ingredients in grams and followed the recipe to make the cookie dough. Then we thought about our cookie shapes, each table had a challenge, we were asked to create a cookie shape with certain properties e.g symmetry, acute angles etc. We baked our cookies and enjoyed the scrumptious tastes.

In the afternoon the girls went for a local walk. The girls noticed a right-angle on the Kola shop van! We then made our way to Kola Shop where we bought sweets to help us make 2D shapes, we had a £15.00 budget so we ensure we estimated and added the amounts mentally before we went to pay. We returned to school and made a prompt start on our 2D shapes, we arranged jelly sticks in parallel and perpendicular lines. Then we thought about shapes with certain properties e.g symmetry, acute angles etc. We enjoyed our yummy sweets at the end of the day.
